Theoretical investigation of local structure distortion and absorption spectra for tetragonal Cr2+ ion in ZnSe:Cr2+ system

By analyzing the zero-field-splitting parameters and of Cr2+ (3d4) ion located at tetrahedral site in ZnSe crystal, the local structure distortion and absorption spectra around Cr2+ in ZnSe: Cr2+ system have been calculated on the basis of the complete energy matrix for the d4 configuration within the strong-filed-representation. It is shown that there exists an expansion distortion in the local lattice structure when Cr2+ ion is doped into ZnSe crystal. From our calculations, the distortion parameters and are determined. a D 0.20A R 3.4

Iron biofortification and activation of antioxidant system of wheat by static magnetic field

Effect of static magnetic field (SMF) on plants is a matter of debate. In the present study plausible useful effects of SMF on wheat plant (Triticum aestivum L.) via improvement of antioxidant system and iron/ferritin fortification were evaluated. The plants were cultivated in pots and in their reproductive stages were treated with or without a 30 mT SMF for 4 days, each 5h. The activity of antioxidant system, iron and ferritin contents was evaluated. In comparison with the control groups, SMF treatment significantly increased the contents of iron, ferritin, and Fe-bound proteins in edible parts of the plants. Treatment with SMF also significantly increased catalase activity and radical scavenging capacity of wheat seeds which led in turn to decrease of membrane lipid peroxidation. The results provide us with a new approach for application of physical stimulators such as SMF in order for iron biofortification and increase of antioxidant capacity of critical crops.

The presence of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) in a stored food results in contamination and substantial economic damage due to loss of the products and a decrease in nutritional value. This study was conducted to determine the pesticidal and pest repellent activities of roots of Laportea crenulata Gaud. against T. castaneum. Pesticidal activity was determined using surface film method, whereas, filter paper disc method was used to determine the pest repellency property of the plant. Both chloroform and methanol soluble fractions of ethanol extracts of roots of L crenulata were found to possess pesticidal property. High mortality record (77-83% at 24-48 hours exposure duration) for chloroform fraction was found at a dose 1.77mg/cm2. On the other hand, methanol fraction showed high mortality records (80-93%) at doses 0.44-1.77 mg/cm2, suggesting its superior pesticidal potency. Although, both fractions also showed pest repellency property, chloroform fraction has higher activity than methanol fraction. These results suggests that roots of L. crenulata possess both pesticidal and pest repellency activities against T castaneum and can be used in controlling pest of grain and flour based products.

In this paper, the effects of scintillation phenomena on Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), which are essential characteristics in Free Space Optical (FSO) communication system, are studied. Until now various methods have been introduced to decrease BER and increase the link's reliability. Optimizing SNR is one of the fundamental methods to decrease BER value. Intensity fluctuations variance of laser beam on the receiver optics due to propagation through turbulent atmosphere which is called Scintillation Index is an effective parameter in SNR. Thus, due to the importance of this index in FSO systems, to study the effects of source and turbulence parameters on BER, first the scintillation index of incoherent flat-topped laser beam propagating through turbulent atmosphere is calculated (using Kolmogorov spectrum model). Then, an analytical formula for SNR and so BER based on Log-Normal irradiance distribution function is expressed. With the help of this formula, results of investigations are shown by graphs. Simulations show that scintillation index and source parameters such as modulation methods and order of beam's flatness have a strong effect on SNR and BER.

A Novel Differential Evolution based optimization algorithm for Non-Sliceable VLSI Floorplanning

Floorplanning is an important step in physical design of VLSI circuits. It is used to plan the positions of a set of circuit modules on a chip in order to optimize the circuit performance. However, modern floorplanning takes better care of providing extra options to place dedicated modules in the hierarchical designs to align circuit blocks one by one within certain bounding box for helping sequential data transfer (bus or pipeline) signal in the VLSI circuit. In this paper, the placement of circuit blocks with alignment constraints can be handled using B*tree representation with Differential Evolutionary algorithm. In order to reduce the solution space, feasibility conditions of nonslicing floorplan with alignment constraints have been examined. The properties associated with our proposed Differential Evolutionary algorithm provide the way to produce optimal floorplan. Experimental results based on the MCNC benchmark circuits with the alignment constraint shows that our Differential algorithm can produce promising solutions.

This study investigated the effects of short-term fasting and re-feeding on hematological and immunological parameters of Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi (Günther, 1874) fingerlings. After 2 weeks of adaptation, 360 fish with an average initial body weight of 6.13±0.40g were distributed in nine 300-L circular fiberglass tanks provided with aeration system following a completely randomized design. The fish were divided in 3 experimental groups (each in triplicate) that included 4, 8 and 16 days of fasting. After food deprivation periods, fish in all the experimental groups were fed to satiation two times a day for a period of 32 days. Blood samples were collected from 15 fish in each treatment (5 fish from each replicate) at the initial and the end of fasting and also re-feeding periods. Blood samples were collected from the caudal vasculature vein using heparinized syringes. Results showed that the numbers of red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit were significantly lower (P0.05) in the number of white blood cells, though their number increased significantly after refeeding period (P0.05). The results of the study showed that food deprivation up to 16 days and subsequent refeeding did not have a significant effect on hematologic and immune indices in M. sharpeyi fingerlings.

Long-term changes in the biological parameters of wild carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio) from the south-eastern Caspian Sea

The populations of wild carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio), as a commercially valuable species in the southeast Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea, have been severely declined during last three decades, but there is no comprehensive research available on the biology of this species in this area. The age, growth and reproductive aspects of samples collected during 2009-2010 fishing season were measured and compared with data from previous studies to elucidate changes during the last five decades. The mean total length and weight of sampled carp ranged from 262- 726 mm and 314- 3733 g, respectively. The von Bertalanffy parameters of K and L∞ for both sexes were 0.24 year -1 and 68.13 cm, respectively. The Gonadosomatic index ranged from 6.61 to 20.12% and 1.2 to 7.11% in female and male samples, respectively. The mean fecundity of fish ranged from 33695 in 4 years carp to 1234567 in 12 years samples with mean of 273 thousand in all fish. The oocyte diameters ranged from 0.69 to 1.53 mm with mean of 1.32 mm. Egg size frequency distribution showed that wild carp has asynchronous ovarian development. Comparing the results from 5 decades ago showed that replacing the gill nets with beech seines has had evident impact on the growth and age-composition of wild carp and the observed asynchronous reproduction strategy should be considered for artificial reproduction programs.

In this paper, we present a new computational technique for solving nonlinear Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. This proposed method is based on Galerkin method and is computationally very attractive. Moreover, for reducing the operations in comparing similar works, we design our algorithm based on transformations of orthogonal polynomials in approximation coefficients calculating scheme. Finally, for showing the reliability and efficiency of this method, we use some numerical examples.

The aim of the present paper is to study the Cu-water nanofluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of a stretching permeable cylinder. Thermal radiation effect is considered in energy equation. The governing partial differential equations with the corresponding boundary conditions are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations with the appropriate boundary conditions using similarity transformation, which is then solved numerically by the fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme featuring a shooting technique. Numerical results for the flow and heat transfer characteristics are obtained for various values of the nanoparticle volume fraction, suction parameter, Reynolds number and radiation parameter. The results show that skin friction coefficient increases with increase of Reynolds number and suction parameter but it decreases with increase of nanoparticle volume fraction. Nusselt number is an increasing function of nanoparticle volume fraction, Reynolds number and suction parameter but it is a decreasing function of radiation parameter.

Computed Tomographyrepresents about 10% of all diagnostic radiology procedures, but it isresponsible for almost 50% - 60% of exposure from diagnostic procedures. Inhead CT, other critical organs such as eye lenses and thyroids are in theradiation field. Therefore, dose assessment in these organs is very important.The aim of this study is to estimate the absorbed dose in critical organs ofpatients undergoing common head CT scans. In this study, the Radiosensitiveorgans in CT were determined in Razi hospital in Rasht, the capital of Gilanprovince in Iran. The standard head phantom that was built from ertalon and cheaptermolominecene dosimeter LiF; Mg: Cu; P was used for dosimetry in organs.Height and diameter of the phantom which contained holes for placing the TLDwere 32 cm and 16 cm, respectively. Readouts were obtained on a Harshaw reader.The results show that during head CT scan, the maximum absorbed dose belongs tooccipital bone skin, that is 15.2mGy, and the minimum absorbed dose belongs tothe neck, which is 0.13 mGy. For reduction of damage due to exposure in CT, itis necessary that the absorbed dose of organs be decreased.

Battery pack is the main energy storage element, and directly affects the performance of electric vehicle. This paper selects the forced air cooling of horizontal battery pack as the study object, and researches the heat dissipation performance of different operating conditions with FLEUNT software. Results indicate that: according to the four kinds of transient state conditions and steady state condition, the temperature rising of horizontal battery pack is significantly higher than the temperature difference; when the electric vehicle beginning to decrease speed, the curve of temperature rising and temperature difference rise, it shows that the internal heat continuously rising up, so even the electric vehicle beginning to decrease speed, the fan must work. Then the reference basis for heat flow field characteristic analysis of horizontal battery pack is offered.

An efficient method for solving strongly nonlinear oscillators: combination of the multi-step homotopy analysis and spectral method

In this study, a new efficient semi-analytical method is introduced to give approximate solutions of strongly nonlinear oscillators. The proposed method is based on combination of two different methods, the multi-step homotopy analysis method and spectral method, called the multi-step spectral homotopy analysis method (MSHAM). In this method, firstly, we propose a new spectral homotopy analysis method and then, we apply it on smaller subintervals and join the resulting solutions that obtained from new spectral homotopy analysis method at the end points of the subintervals. Several significant strongly nonlinear oscillators are tested with the new scheme to demonstrate its accuracy and easy implementation.
